Linn County Supervisors Blow Up Rural Fireworks Ban

The Linn County Board of Supervisors met on Wednesday and discussed the ongoing hot-button topic: fireworks.

The county and state both allow the private use of them for two periods, between June 1 and July 8, as well as between December 10 and January 3 at designated hours. A resolution was proposed to restrict all fireworks use in Linn County to one day--July 4 only, during a period of 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Supervisor Ben Rogers propsed the resolution and voted in favor of it, while Stacey Walker and Brett Oleson voted against. Oleson oversees the better part of rural Linn County and claims his constituents have yet to bring any concerns with the current restrictions to his attention and sees no need to tighten them at this time.

Walker stated the issue could later be revisited to carve out different restrictions for different areas where they may be more heavily used, but Rogers said it's now or never and that the idea cherry-picking areas to tighten restrictions in the future, could be a slippery slope for residents.
