Lots of People are Learning Minesweeper Isn’t a Game of Luck

Back in the day, Microsoft PCs came loaded with very few games. I probably played thousands of games of solitaire and spider solitaire when I was bored and wasn't able to use the internet, but the one game I never understood was Minesweeper. I was convinced that it was 100% impossible to win, considering it was based on luck... or so many of us thought.

Guess what? Minesweeper is actually a game of strategy, not chance. You may already know this, but tons of people, including myself, are just figuring this out thanks to a new TikTok video. According to LAD Bible, "a TikTok user called Paisley - who goes by the handle @p.hops - aims to show you how you're really meant to play the game."

After watching this video, I immediately became hooked on Minesweeper. I played game after game after game yesterday, just trying to prove it was possible to win. I FINALLY DID IT, and it was wildly satisfying.

In case you're wondering how to play, Ducksters has written out some very simple rules:

"The numbers on the board represent how many bombs are adjacent to a square. For example, if a square has a "3" on it, then there are 3 bombs next to that square. The bombs could be above, below, right left, or diagonal to the square. Avoid all the bombs and expose all the empty spaces to win Minesweeper."

That means you're supposed to use the little flags to mark where the bombs are, not just click random squares until the board blows up.

It's kind of sad that it took so long for so many of us to learn this, but then again, when you're a kid, reading directions feels like a waste of time. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go play a thousand more games Minesweeper to make up for lost time.
