Chicago's 'Magnificent' Mile is becoming a little less so. The Michigan Avenue department store is preparing a several-weeks-long clearance sale.

The Macy's Magnificent Mile store is located inside Water Tower Place, one the first places a shopping trip can just suck money out of your account. It's not that difficult, it's a beautiful place to spend time in the city of Chicago. On Tuesday (1/5), after 45 years, store officials announced that the store would be permanently closing.

The company plans to close around 125 locations in the next three years. So many retail giants are crumbling, this is a very necessary move for the survival of the brand.

Covid-related shutdowns, even civil unrest, have put tremendous pressure on the district. Macy’s Water Tower Place location was among the retailers damaged during several days of looting over the summer.

Now, the information you really want. When is the big sale going down...

"A clearance sale at the Water Tower Place location will begin sometime this month and run for eight to 12 weeks", said Macy’s spokeswoman Andrea Schwartz.

The company says they will continue to serve customers on State Street in the former Marshall Field’s building, as well as suburban locations.
