Like many other events, activities and shows, the annual "Marion By Moonlight" concert series was originally called off due to social distancing and the Coronavirus pandemic. Despite most of Iowa now being allowed to reopen at "full capacity" tomorrow, many of these cancelations or postponements will likely stay as such. But we will keep you posted on any of those changes.

A new life for some of these events has been found, as the show can go on "virtually". Such is the case for Uptown Friday Night, hosted by the Cedar Rapids Jaycees. The first one features Slap 'N Tickle and Superknot, Friday night, July 12. Get details on how to enjoy that event here.

Meanwhile, "Marion by Moonlight" recently formed a partnership with KCRG 9.2 to air its events, again, virtually only, this summer. It began last week with Lonesome Road and continues this evening with Boot Jack Band. "Marion By Moonlight: Virtually" starts at 7.  9.2 is on Mediacom channel 109 and ImOn channel 709 in the Cedar Rapids area. Found out here how to get it elsewhere, or you can pick it up with your antenna over the air.

Organizers say on Facebook: "due to restrictions still in place relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, we made the difficult decision to cancel our Marion By Moonlight live concert series this year for health and safety reasonsBut … we are keeping Marion by Moonlight alive for its 24th year by partnering with KCRG to air a 1-hour recorded performance by each of our bands for everyone to enjoy on KCRG 9.2."

They invite you to sit back and enjoy live music from the comfort of your couch! Here is the remaining schedule of bands, with more information available at the Uptown Marion website.

  • June 11 – Boot Jack Band
  • June 18 – Evan Stock Band
  • June 25 – Well Strung

We encourage you to check it out this year. These are 1-hour recorded performances, and these local bands have worked hard to put on a great show. Tune in tonight and every Thursday in June at 7 p.m. on 9.2.
