Heavy rains and flooding have forced the closure of two of Marion's parks.

Today the City of Marion has announced that both the Boyson Trail and Thomas Park are closed until further notice, following rains and flooding of Indian Creek.

In a press release issued today the city said:

The Boyson Trail system from Boyson Rd to Hwy 100, Legion Park Disc Golf Course and Thomas Park playgrounds, pavilions, splash pad, and basketball courts are closed to the public. Access to Thomas Park will be limited to City staff only, until further notice. The public is reminded to observe and obey signage at the entrances of parks and trails.

The rain is expected to continue tonight and Wednesday, which is flooding many area rivers. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning in effect until Sunday for the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids, with an expected crest at 15.5 just below total flood stage at 16 feet.

Questions regarding Thomas Park and Boyson Trail closings can be directed to the Marion Parks and Recreation Department at (319) 447-3580 or (319) 447-3590.
