Foreigner Stage Musical ‘Juke Box Hero’ Scheduled to Premiere in 2018
New tour dates and a career-spanning best-of compilation aren't the only ways the members of Foreigner intend to celebrate the band's 40th anniversary. Fans can also look forward to a new stage musical, set to debut sometime in 2018.
News of the show, titled Juke Box Hero, comes courtesy of Foreigner founder Mick Jones, who made the announcement alongside the scheduling of some new Canadian dates on the band's 40th anniversary tour. "I never could have imagined when I set out to create Foreigner 40 years ago that we’d still be touring around the world and performing the music we love all these years later," said Jones. "I am so proud that these songs will now be reinterpreted for stage, and am honored by the team that is helping bring this music to life."
The musical, which was penned by the writing team of Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais (The Commitments, Across the Universe), is described as a "coming-of-age saga written to the music of Foreigner," and although further details are currently being kept under wraps, Jones added that the show will make its stage debut in Canada next year.
"I can’t express the gratitude I feel when fans share stories of how our songs have been woven into their milestones and memories over the years," he added. "I had so many great times with Foreigner in Canada and I look forward to bringing the band back here for our 40th anniversary tour. I’m thrilled that Canada will see the premiere of our brand new musical, Juke Box Hero, in 2018."
