So what's the worst case scenario look like? Pretty scary, so let's stay informed.

According to University of Nebraska Medical Center professor Dr. James Lawler, about 96 million Americans could become infected with coronavirus. Of those, 4.8 million could be hospitalized and nearly half a million could die.

The Daily Mail reports those figures were leaked from a slide presentation by Dr. James Lawler, recently given at an American Hospital Association gathering in February.

The slides, obtained by Business Insider, suggest that hospitals need to ramp up preparations now to reduce the death toll around the US.

Another concern now is that traces of the coronavirus found in hospital air ducts in China has led scientists to believe the disease could be spread through air-conditioning units, making it more contagious than initially thought.

Doctor Lawler estimated people with heart conditions have a one in 10 chance of dying from the disease, compared to less than one in a 100 among healthy individuals.

So far there are no cases currently in Iowa.

Right now the best advice still is to wash your hands, cover your cough or sneeze and stay home if you're sick.
