Back in July of 2021, we told you about Kids Inc. off of Muirfield Dr. SW in Cedar Rapids closed suddenly causing parents to scramble. The closure was due to staffing issues, something so many other businesses struggled with during the pandemic. In fact, KCRG reports that Iowa has lost 33% of its childcare facilities. The good news is that we're starting to see some open again. A new daycare is opening in the old Kids Inc. location.

According to KCRG, Fields of Fun Child Care has taken the place of Kids Inc and the President of the center, Taryn Krahmer, is a mother of two that used to take her son to Kids Inc. Krahmer was inspired to open the new facility after seeing how the facility's closure took a hit on the community. Krahmer wanted to fill that gap, and despite having a background in business, she decided to step up.

I was so ecstatic to be able to help out. To be able to make more spots for children and not only spots, but great spots. We really feel like we’ve put a lot into this facility,” Krahmer told KCRG.

That's apparent. Take a look at one of the new classrooms.

Krahmer is looking for community support to help balance employee wages and prices for parents. Anyone who is willing to help and can give sponsors is encouraged to do so. Fields of Fun did get over $749,000 from the state to help open their doors. The new facility will help parents in Cedar Rapids not have to miss work to provide their children with quality care.
