Earlier this week, the Marion Chamber of Commerce announced a new program for the city's residents and businesses. It's a grant that's been accumulating donations to disburse as recovery funding after the August 10 derecho.

People in Marion can apply for the recovery, for funding up to $500 for residential applicants and $1500 for small businesses, going out starting November 27 (when the applications are due), until the money is gone.

A press release from the Marion Chamber states that the grant program "is designed to aid the most severely impacted residents and businesses. Funds may be used for emergency housing needs, insurance deductibles that the grantee cannot afford, help with clean up, tree and debris removal, tree replacement and/or property repairs that were caused by the disaster and not covered by insurance."

Marion Chamber President Jill Ackerman notes that donations have come from all over the country into this fund, which shows that people everywhere have had their eye on our devastation and recovery for the last three months. If you'd like to apply, now through November 27, get the information and application here.

One local organization that has been in the spotlight since the derecho has also benefitted from the Marion Chamber's efforts, as Trees Forever proudly accepted a $10,000 check to continue their work in the community to begin replacing the lost tree canopy in Marion.

Churches of Marion Food Pantry also received $10,000 to continue helping to feed the community, an especially well-timed donation with Thanksgiving just a few weeks away and so many still in need of assistance.
