With medical professionals and first responders doing thankless work right now, many people might not consider that nurses may be on the frontlines more than anyone else.

Our kind "thoughts and prayers" and verbal "thank yous" are certainly supportive, but what's even better is for them to get support from each other. Only they know what they are really going through during this Coronavirus pandemic. But there are still patients with illnesses and conditions not related to COVID-19 that these courageous and special men and women are working to protect and save.

Lisa Caffery is the head of the Iowa Nurses Association and says "people are still having heart attack. People are still needing to see their doctors, so the nurses are having to move in and out of that crisis mode back into their regular care pattern".

KCRG reports that the Iowa Nurses Association has opened a new hotline just for them. It is staffed by volunteers who are nurses themselves and will be a comforting voice on the other end of the line for those who call with their questions, concerns or maybe just need someone to talk to.

Caffery reminds all of us that the best way we can support them at this time is to follow all social distancing guidelines to the best of our ability.

If you would like to use this free nurse-to-nurse hotline, you can call (515) 650-2295.
