New Iowa Theatre Has Special Effect Seats, Bowling Alley & Arcade
The seventh-largest movie company in the U.S. opens their first entertainment complex in Iowa this Thursday. B&B Theatres is making a pretty grand introduction to Iowa with a place that's much more than a movie theatre. It also has a bowling alley, arcade, and full-service restaurant and bar. However, I think the movie auditoriums are what patrons will enjoy the most.
The "Ankeny 12 & B-Roll Bowling" (I just love the name of the bowling alley) will have a dozen movie auditoriums, all of them with reclining, heated, leather seats. Two of the auditoriums will have some of the biggest movie screens in the country, that go from wall-to-wall. Those two theatre rooms will also feature "DTS-X immersive surround sound." Now THAT 'sounds' impressive. Paul Farnsworth, B&B Theatres spokesman, told the Des Moines Register,
There are speakers literally all around the guests, from the side walls to the back wall to the ceiling to sub woofers behind the screen.
You think that's cool, how 'bout this? The theatre will also include an MX4D auditorium. That theatre will have seats that rumble along with mists and scents. It may seem so real you think you're actually IN the movie.
It will also include a screenPLAY! theater, where kids can play for as much as 30 minutes before the movie starts. If they play too hard, they may sleep through some of the movie. I'll let you decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. By the way, kids are not allowed to play during the movie.
Ankeny 12 & B-Roll Bowling will also feature an "Outtakes Arcade" (another great name) and Marquee Bar and Grill with everything from drinks to burgers and typical concession fare.
B&B Theatres Ankeny 12 & B-Roll Bowling opens Thursday afternoon, December 13 at 1500 SW Market Street in Ankeny. I definitely think a road-trip is in order, but I'm going to wait. Something tells me this place is going to be VERY BUSY for a long while.
