Charges are pending in a case involving over a dozen dead animals, as well as numerous living dogs and cats, found in a Bremer County home.


At about 3pm on Sunday (Aug. 11), Sumner Police, assisted by the Bremer County Sheriff, executed a search warrant at a home at 611 First Street in Sumner, after getting numerous reports from citizens concerning the condition of the dogs and cats living in the home, as well as the detached garage.

Authorities discovered the home was in poor living condition, and was not climate controlled.

13 living cats and dogs, as well as 15 dead animals were found in the home and garage at the residence. The living animals were turned over to the Humane Society of America, and Last Hope Animal Shelter.

The dogs and cats are being cared for, and will eventually be put up for adoption.

The incident remains under investigation, and charges are currently pending.
