Authorities Identify Victim Of Iowa Semi and Train Collision

[UPDATE] The Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office identified the victim in the train and truck collision accident on Wednesday.

According to a media release from the department, Ronald Huntoon, 54-year-old from Council Bluffs was the driver of the semi-truck. The personnel on the train were employees of the Iowa Interstate Railroad and were uninjured from the accident.

The release says that 510th street between Rosewood Road and Pinoak Road will remain close.

[ORIGINAL] One person died after a crash in western Iowa involving a grain truck and a train.

Officials responded to a report of a collision Wednesday afternoon in Walnut, Iowa. A truck collided with a rail train dragging the semi somewhere between 100 and 150 yards says a report in KETV. When authorities arrived at the scene, the truck was on fire.

According to the article, the train was traveling east, and the grain truck was going south when the collision happened.

The intersection where the crash happened did not have barrier arms says WOWT. According to deputies, the signals on the road were working at the time of the accident and were still on as crews worked at the scene.

The crash caused some of the train cars to derail.

The identity of the driver is unknown. Authorities say that the fire made it impossible to identify the person in the truck. It will take further investigation to know the sex of the driver.

The truck was hauling brewers’ grain, a byproduct of ethanol production fed to cattle. The train cars were also carrying grain.
