Now that we are a full 5 days into the year 2024, the holiday hangover should be over by now, and it's time to get cracking on all of the things you want to accomplish in 2024. Whether you've made a couple of New Year's resolutions you want to stick with or you're simply hoping for a better year than the last one, our first weekend has arrived and there's no better time to put those life changes to the test.

Whether you have fitness goals or financial goals, this weekend is the first real test to start making good habits. If you have any kind of social goal like spending more time with friends or going out with your significant other once a week. Maybe this is the year you're looking to find the one.

If you're looking for love or even just hope to go on a few dates this year, Sunday (January 7) is the day to start looking, at least online.

Dating Sunday

The first Sunday in January is being called "Dating Sunday" for online dating. On this day, dating apps see an incredible surge in people updating bios, uploading new photos, sending messages, AND responding to messages. Online daters respond to messages almost 20 minutes faster than any other day of the year. Dating Sunday has shown to see an increase in likes by 18%.

Why Does This Happen

There isn't an exact reason for why the first Sunday in January is like the Super Bowl for online dating but I do have a few guesses. I could be wrong but I would think it's likely a combination of fresh starts for the New Year, New Year's resolutions to be more social, the holidays are over so you might be more socially available, and being around other couples during the holidays can feel lonely.

Once again, I have no idea if any of those are correct but I think they're all pretty safe guesses. If you think 2024 is the year you could potentially find the one, this Sunday is as good as any to hop on the dating apps.

It also doesn't matter which app you prefer; Tinder, Hinge, Bumble, Farmers Only, Christian Mingle, all online dating apps appear to see an increase in activity on Dating Sunday.
