What started out as a prank among friends, has now turned into hundreds of families getting a free turkey for Thanksgiving. Last year a friends phone number was put on Craigslist saying he was giving away free turkeys. He ended up receiving numerous calls about the free birds. A group of his co-workers saw there was a need in the community and gathered money and gave away turkeys for Thanksgiving.

Flash forward to 2018. 'Operation Give Birds' is back and hoping to be bigger and better than ever. Last year's effort helped 80 families in the corridor get turkeys in time for the holidays. This year, the group hopes to hand out three times as many birds. Money raised not only goes towards buying the birds, but it also purchases potatoes and green beans. You get a full meal for free.

The group will be handing out turkeys this Sunday in front of the Newbo City Market. Any money left over will be donated to Willis Dady. If you would like a free turkey or if you would like to donate to the group you can contact them via their Facebook page.
