It's been a rough few months in Cedar Rapids as we continue to recover from the August 10 derecho, but several organizations are coming together with Cedar Rapids Animal Care Control, to make it a little less "ruff" for you and your best friend. If you missed it last time around, you can get stocked up on their food again this weekend, thanks to another Pet Food Pantry.

According to a City of Cedar Rapids press release, Purina has donated two pallets of dry dog food and one pallet of cat food for free distribution. Meanwhile, Hill's Science Diet has donated 2,000 pounds of assorted dog and cat food.

We can thank the nonprofit Friends Help Friends organization for securing these donations, which will be available while supplies last, on a first-come, first-served basis, this Sunday, October 11, starting at 1 p.m. The distribution will take place at the Animal Care and Control office at 900 76th Ave. SW in Cedar Rapids. In addition to the food supplies, there will be vouchers for cat litter provided by Jonny Cat, World's Best Cat Litter and a limited number of vouchers provided by Chewy.com for leashes and collars.

A few reminders due to the pandemic, it will be a drive-up event with masks required to be worn by all patrons. Volunteers will deliver an allotment of food and supplies to your vehicle, where you'll be asked to remain.
