They are synonymous with family fun and after nearly three decades, their name will soon reflect it.

While The Play Station in Cedar Rapids slightly pre-dates the Sony Playstation gaming console, the owners of the Cedar Rapids (and Eldridge, Iowa near the Quad Cities) staple have decided in part due to increasing confusion, to make a name change. But almost everything else will stay the same.

A Facebook post from Edwards Family Entertainment makes your heart sink for just a second before relief sets in:

After an amazing 29 years of providing family fun to Eastern Iowa and welcoming millions of guests into our facilities we are excited to share that were ready to do it for another 29 years! The business, now known as "The Fun Station", is indeed staying open, as the post goes on to say that between the aforementioned Sony product and Edwards Entertainment's popular Fun Centers, it has increasingly caused confusion.

Unrelated to the Edwards group, Tiffin did just announce a brand new family fun facility being built there. Plans are in place for an IMAX theater that will also include arcade games, bowling, a restaurant, and a bar. Learn more about that development here.

It seems as though critics of the alleged lack of fun things to do for kids and families in Eastern Iowa are running out of excuses.
