This baby has a story to tell for the rest of her life.

The nearest hospital to rural Eldora, Iowa no longer offers labor and delivery services, so when their little bundle of joy was about to come into the world, Dwayne and Amanda Melton had to load up and drive 50 miles to Ames.

All was going well but by the time they got there, the little baby just couldn't wait anymore. Amanda's water broke just before they got to the parking lot and when they pulled in at Mary Greeley Medical Center the baby, whose name was not noted in the KCCI story, was delivered in the parking lot of the hospital. Dwayne said:

I came around and as I am opening the door she is leaning back holding the baby by the head and shoulders and she says you gotta grab her. I reached in and caught her in the palms of my hands

At least they knew they had medical professionals at the ready but they acknowledge the distance is a tough situation. Most importantly for them, their baby is safe, happy, and healthy and that's really all that matters. Congratulations!
