Former Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett's bid to become Governor of Iowa is over. An Iowa court judge denied Corbett's appeal to get on the June 5 primary ballot this morning.

The appeal came after Corbett filed a lawsuit in Polk County in response to an Iowa elections panel tossing him off the ballot because he was short of the required signatures. Corbett originally was over the required 4,005 signatures, before a ruling that said some of them were not valid.

Ron Corbett was mayor of Cedar Rapids from 2009 to 2017, when he did not seek re-election. He previously served seven terms in the Iowa House of Representatives. He was Speaker of the Iowa House from 1995 to 1999. He resigned that position to become president of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.

As a result of the judge's ruling, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds will be the only Republican Governor candidate in the June 5 ballot.
