Rough Weather Hitting Eastern Iowa Monday
Cedar Rapids and Eastern Iowa are bracing for some serious weather on Monday, January 16. Check for the latest closings and cancellations HERE.
A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect with the likelihood of freezing rain and up to a quarter inch of ice accumulation.
As you can see from the graphic above, some spots, including Tama, Black Hawk, Bremer, Butler and Grundy counties, are even under an Ice Storm Warning. CBS 2's Rebecca Kopelman describes the distinction via her Twitter feed:
We now know from the City of Cedar Rapids that due to the impending weather conditions, trash and recycling collection in the city has been delayed for MONDAY ONLY. If your trash is normally collected Monday, hang tight on putting it out until Tuesday. The suspension is, again, for Monday, January 16 only, and the rest of the week's collection will be on schedule. The full announcement from the City of Cedar Rapids website follows:
WEATHER DELAY: Due to weather, the Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling Division will be delaying garbage and recycling collection for Monday routes and suspending yard waste collection for all customers the week of Jan. 16. Customers who normally have Monday collection should place their garbage and recycling carts out on Tuesday, Jan. 17. This one-day delay will ONLY impact Monday customers. All other customers should place their garbage and recycling carts out on their normal collection day. Yard waste will not be collected the week of Jan. 16.
Above all, stay safe as we ride out this latest winter weather event, and track road conditions for your Monday morning commute HERE.
