Selena Gomez Chokes Up During Emotional ‘E! News’ Interview
These days, Selena Gomez is wearing her heart on her sleeve.
The "Wolves" singer, who's no stranger to advocacy efforts, talked with E! News' Jason Kennedy Thursday (September 6), and when the topic of human trafficking came up, things got pretty emotional.
Gomez, who's now working with A21 (you can read about the group's efforts to abolish slavery worldwide here), told Kennedy that she hopes to bring more attention to the epidemic, which she said is frequently a more local issue than people think it is.
"I take it extremely serious and my friends are heavily involved with me because it's not something happening a million miles away. It's actually happening here," she said, "I would love to do everything I can, along with one of my heroes [A21 founder Christine Caine], to just be a part of it and learn."
And when Kennedy asked Gomez about some moments she's experienced as part of her efforts, she visibly teared up.
"I want them to be seen, you know, so I want to be able to communicate that to them that they are beautiful and I will do everything I can to get their story out," she said.
Gomez voiced similar sentiments in an Instagram upload earlier this week in which she chided a recent interviewer for ignoring some of her advocacy work in favor of publishing details about her personal life and faith.
"As I’m aware there will always be interests in one’s personal life because that’s the pace of our ‘social’ generation," she said. "I’m grateful for my position and I will always find ways to make my job more about others and giving back."
