The video above contains SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame. If you don’t want to know what happens in that movie, don’t watch!

The new Spider-Man: Far From Home finally makes it clear exactly when in the MCU timeline this movie takes place — after the events of Avengers: Endgame. It’s set in a world without Tony Stark (RIP), with Peter Parker (Tom Holland) weighing his great responsibilities. The world needs a new Iron Man. Should it be him? He just wants to go on vacation!

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) has other plans. He needs Spider-Man’s help on a case that also involves Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), who’s supposedly a hero from an alternate reality. Spider-Man fans know that’s not usually how he’s portrayed in the comics, but I won’t spoil anything for you here. (You’re welcome.)

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.

It is a little weird that apparently all of Peter Parker’s friends have remained the same age; remember that post-Endgame in the MCU it’s the year 2023; five years passed between that movie’s first couple scenes and the later ones. People who survived the snap have aged five years (like Ant-Man’s daughter), while people who were snapped away came back as they were as if no time had passed. You’d think about half of Peter’s class from Midtown High would have graduated (and graduated college!) but all the key characters are around for Far From Home.

It’s a great young cast, though, so it’s hard to complain too much. Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters on July 2.
