No St. Jude Sweet Corn Festival in 2020, but there's still something special in store. And there will be sweet corn for sale.

It's a bummer that the annual fun and tasty tradition has become one of the many summer events lost to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the organizers are now asking us to help them maintain those community roots in a different way this year.

If there's one place you should be able to turn for help and safe community fellowship, it's a church, and St. Jude has devised a special event devoted to giving back to its community in an enormous time of need.

Let's not call it a "replacement" to the Sweet Corn Festival even though it will happen around the same time. It's a Community Drive to collect blood and food donations.  A Facebook announcement just updated for the event saying there WILL be sweet corn for sale.

Iowa's News Now says: "on August 8th there will be the "St. Jude Sweet Corn Festival Community Drive" to give back to the community."

From 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. that day will be the blood drive. From 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. they will accept non-perishable food donations along with cleaning supplies and school supplies.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase, for carryout only, "festival food", raffle tickets and t-shirts to commemorate the festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you'd like to be part of this event, the details are above and in an article here, with all of it taking place on August 8 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 50 Edgewood Rd. NW in Cedar Rapids.
