David Letterman is coming back to the small screen.

Like so many famous Davids, you’d never know if Letterman was content to enjoy retirement, or stage an unexpected comeback. The revered interviewer and former Late Show host is officially making a return to our lives, leading – what else – a new Netflix series doing what he does best.

We don’t often think of fictional Presidents in terms of alternate realities, even as they mix real-life political history with their own. Veep in particular has a somewhat hazy backdrop, though producers apparently tried to get David Letterman to cameo in an alternate-reality Tonight Show twist.

Like many, I watched Letterman's final show last night. And like many, I wondered what was going to happen Thursday night, and over the next couple months, as Colbert won't take over till September 8th.  Tonight we got that answer, and learned another disturbing fact.

There were no scheduled guests on the final episode of The Late Show With David Letterman (minus The Foo Fighters, who closed out the night with a performance of “Everlong”), but that didn’t mean that a few of Letterman’s old friends didn’t stop by to say goodbye one last time. Some of the funniest people alive all came together to present one final Top Ten list, Things I've Always Wanted to Say To Dave.

Tonight is the David Letterman finale, and everyone is chiming in with their sentiments.  Some are even saying "now what?"  Maybe it's my age.  Maybe it's what I was raised on.  But I'm not too worried, as I've never been a fan.

You don’t have to wait until later tonight to begin saying goodbye to David Letterman (though if you’re like us, you’ve already started that process) — you can do it right now. The venerable, longtime Late Show host is ending his 33-year run with tonight’s episode, which promises to be a fantastic, hilarious and appropriately heartwarming sendoff. David Letterman's 3+ decade run in late night comes to an end tonight. I will really, really miss Dave. He's always been my favorite, in my favorite TV genre. I'm a big fan of other present day talkers too, like The Jimmys, Conan, Seth, Corden, etc...

T-minus one week and counting until the very last Late Show with David Letterman and the tributes are coming faster and faster, and sadder and sadder. I hope on the last installment of Stupid Pet Tricks one of the tricks is a shih tzu shedding a single tear for the end of this venerable late-night franchise, which comes to a close on May 20. It’s only fitting.

With David Letterman departing The Late Show to make way for Stephen Colbert, the entire world waits with bated breath to see what this living legend will do after his final episode airs this May. Thankfully, we have people like Billy Eichner around to accost strangers and collect suggestions for what he should do next.
