BuzzFeed compiled a list recently of the things we don't clean often enough, but need to. Here are some of the most common ones, and a few may surprise you.

    Credit cards

Believe it or not, these need to be cleaned often. They collect dust and dirt, especially the magnetic strip. When this happens, the card may not go through, of course, and you may think something is wrong with your account. Before you call the bank or credit card company, your card may just need a quick cleaning. Wipe the card down with a towel and clean the magnetic strip with a pencil eraser.

    Toothbrush

Rinsing it off when you're through is not good enough. Here's one I need to work on. HealthExtremist says to soak your toothbrush in mouthwash to keep it clean and germ-free.

    Garbage cans

Indoor and outdoor garbage cans need cleaned frequently. You may think because you're just putting trash in it, it doesn't need cleaned. Don't wait until the garbage can gets "that smell" before you clean it. IDreamOfClean suggests the best ways. If they're small enough, you can pop them in the dishwasher. Otherwise, a simple scrubbing with a mix of soap and water, repeated as many times as necessary, should do the trick. Use a garden hose sprayer for larger, outdoor trash bins. Voila.

    Houseplants

I know all about this one. Those houseplants collect a lot of dust so find the instructions on how to best clean them HERE.

    Reusable Grocery bags

I've been telling people this for years. Kudos for going green, but the reusable grocery bags are made of fabric, therefore they do still need to be washed on occasion. Ideally, you would do so after every use, but at least after few, wash them in cold water and hang them up to dry.
