This past weekend was the final weekend of the 2022 Iowa State Fair, which means that an official winner of the Best New Fair Food award has been crowned by fairgoers!

This year's winner is The Finisher, created by the folks at The Rib Shack. The description on the fair's website reads:

"Not your average potato, it’s an extra-large russet potato, layered with chopped brisket, smoked pulled pork and The Rib Shack’s famous Bacon Brisket Mac and Cheese. Follow that up with a generous amount of gourmet BBQ sour cream and signature garlic rub butter."

According to the Des Moines Register, Joni Bell from The Rib Shack accepted the 2022 Best New Fair Food award, and she said:

"We just try to come up with something with all of our products on this trailer that we can utilize ... (without having to) incorporate something new besides something simple. And that potato made the great base to it. Who doesn't love a great potato?"

The other two finalists for Best Fair Food were the OMG Chicken Sandwich from Chicken City, and the Pork Picnic in a Cup from the Iowa Pork Tent. The OMG Chicken Sandwich contains a piece of chicken coated in corn flakes, which is deep-fried, put on a glazed donut bun, topped with bacon, and drizzled with syrup. The Pork Picnic in a Cup is a cup layered with pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce, and then garnished with brown sugar pork belly. Even though neither food won, it was still an honor to make it into the top three out of 53 new foods!
