It’s been a quiet couple of years in the world of Star Wars games; the last really major title to emerge from Lucasfilm was 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Apart from some LEGO Star Wars games, and the odd release here or there, there hasn’t been a ton to get excited about if you prefer to visit the galaxy far, far away on a console rather than a theater screen.

So this news is more than welcome. StarWars.com revealed today that Lucasfilm is partnering with Skydance New Media to develop “a narrative-driven, action-adventure game featuring an original story in the Star Wars galaxy.” That concept is particularly exciting since it is being spearheaded on Skydance’s end by Amy Henning, an acclaimed game director whose credits include being the director and a co-writer on UnchartedUncharted 2, and Uncharted 3.

Here was Hennig’s comment on the news:

I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly. I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.

Skydance New Media is already working on another game involving Marvel’s superheroes that was announced in 2021.

There have been some very enjoyable Star Wars games on modern consoles — Star Wars: Battlefront was a wonderful way to kill a couple hundred hours —but nothing that compares with the Uncharted series. A Star Wars game with some of the mechanics and storytelling of an Uncharted sounds absolutely sensational. Let’s hope it doesn’t take too long for us to actually see it.
