The Michaels store in Marion has been closed since last August, and we're going to have to wait a little bit longer for it to reopen.

Last August's derecho destroyed lots of homes and businesses here in Eastern Iowa, and that includes several businesses over in the Collins Road Square shopping center. One of the hardest hit stores was the Michaels location. Back on August 24th, an article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette stated that the popular arts and crafts chain suffered "significant damage" and that employees had no idea when the store would be able to reopen. Around seven months later, the business is, unfortunately, still closed.

When you click on the Marion location (1470 Twixt Town Rd) on the Michaels website, a big red icon says that the location is "OPENING SOON" and it lists 3/12/21 as the date. But, I called the store this morning (319-900-4200), and they informed me that the date recently had to be pushed back again, and the website has not been updated yet. They're still not sure of the exact reopening date at this time. In the meantime, the location at 2515 Corridor Way in Coralville is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Collins Road Theatres is another business that was hit hard by the derecho, but they were able to reopen back on December 11th. The theatre made some major upgrades, including new reclining seats, a new ceiling, new lights, and a new air filtration system to help combat COVID-19. They also launched a new private screening option, where you can rent out an entire auditorium for your friends and family. They can host up to 20 people for a starting price of $100. Get more information on that new option HERE.
