Every holiday season there are new surveys showing people's favorite Christmas movies, but I think this is the first time I've been excited about the results!

The website House Method surveyed over 4,500 Americans to find out the top Christmas movies across the country, and the number one movie in Iowa is also the number one movie overall: A Christmas Story.

The 1983 classic was named the top Christmas movie in 24 different states, Elf came in second with 11 states, and third place was Home Alone with four states. I also found it interesting that Die Hard came in first place in two states, since many people still argue about if it's a Christmas movie or not.

Here are the top picks for surrounding Midwest states:

  • Illinois - It's a Wonderful Life
  • Minnesota/South Dakota - A Christmas Story
  • Missouri/Wisconsin - Elf
  • Nebraska - Christmas Vacation

The reason I love this survey is because A Christmas Story is my favorite Christmas movie EVER. I've watched it hundreds of times, more than any other movie I've ever seen. I can quote it front to back, and I even have a leg lamp in my front window! Another survey actually named it the best holiday movie of all time! I'm just so happy to see it get the appreciation it deserves.
