Happy holidays!

Even though most of us won't be having large family gatherings for Christmas this year, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy some of our favorite holiday treats! The website Zippia recently put together a list titled, "The Most Popular Christmas Treat in Every State" based on popular Google searches. The article reads:

"Using Google Trends, we determined what Christmas treat each state eats a disproportionate amount of. We examined over 40 Christmas classics- including candy stocking stuffers, peppermint yumminess, and all the cakes. From there, we determined what treat is searched a disproportionately, high amount."

Overall, cheesecake was the number one most popular Christmas treat. It was the chosen dessert in nine different states including Michigan and Ohio, but not Iowa. The pick for Iowa was actually pretty surprising to me, mainly because I've never heard of it before! Our top treat is Oreo Balls.

After a quick Google search, I discovered that Oreo Balls are incredibly simple to make. Most recipes only require three ingredients: Oreo Cookies, cream cheese, and baking chocolate. Click HERE for a popular one from the website I Heart Naptime.

Here are some of the winners for surrounding Midwest states:

  • Wisconsin - Andes Peppermint
  • Minnesota - Peppermint Kiss Cookies
  • South Dakota - Sugar Cookies
  • Nebraska - York Peppermint Pattie
  • Missouri - Vegan Christmas Cookies
  • Illinois - Chocolate Santas

When it comes to holiday treats, cookies are my #1 favorite. Peanut Butter Blossoms, Chocolate Crinkles, Gingerbread, Sugar Cookies... you name it, I'll eat it! I also love the occasional Reese's Tree. What's your favorite holiday treat? Let us know in the comments below!
