Call me crazy, but I think that the state of Iowa is pretty underrated (we did rank as the best state in the nation this week!). Every time I go back home to Michigan, all I hear is corn jokes for days. The people who have come to visit me, though, they know how great this state can be. One of my best friends comes here every year to celebrate her birthday because she likes it so much!

Within the underrated state of Iowa, we have quite a few underrated cities. The website Thrillist recently did some research to figure out the most underrated cities in all 50 states, and the winner for Iowa is a name we're all familiar with.

Dubuque was crowned the most underrated city in the whole state of Iowa! The city is known for its history, riverfront, and gorgeous scenery, and, I didn't realize this, but it was actually the inspiration for the ice wall in Game of Thrones. Here's what Thrillist had to say about it:

"There are plenty of winter land activities open to you, including snowshoeing the old Spanish mines of the Calcite Trail or snowboarding nearby Sundown Mountain. In warm months, take a sunset riverboat cruise up the Mississippi for views of Dubuque’s revitalization efforts around the Warehouse District. Follow it up with a taproom crawl through the Millwork District, including stops at Jubeck Brewing and Hawkeye bar, and be on the lookout for offerings of Toppling Goliath, makers of six of BeerAdvocate’s top-rated 100 beers."

Do you agree with this choice, or do you think another city deserves the title? Share your thoughts in the comments!
