The Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals Car Show is Still On

An endless number of summer events in 2020 have been canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, but there are a few big ones that are still scheduled to happen! According to the Des Moines Register, the Goodguys 29th Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals car show is still scheduled for early July.

This year's event will take place July 3rd through 5th at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Here is the official schedule, courtesy of the Goodguys website:

• Friday, July 3rd from  8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Saturday, July 4th from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Sunday, July 5th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will feature "over 4,000 rods, customs, classics, muscle cars, and trucks thru '87," vendors, a swap meet, giveaways, a kids zone, displays, and a whole lot more. Some of the events scheduled include:

• Friday, July 3rd
  • Parking Lot Party - 6 p.m. at the West Des Moines Marriott
  • AutoCross Racing - 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Twilight Cruise - 5 p.m. on Grand Ave
• Saturday, July 4th
  • AutoCross Racing - 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    • “Duel in Des Moines” shootout from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Nitro Thunderfest Dragster Exhibition - 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.
  • Free Model Car Make & Take - 1 p.m.
  • Live Music - 8 p.m.
  • Fireworks - 9:30 p.m.
• Sunday, July 5th
  • AutoCross Racing - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Church Service - 10 a.m.
  • Free Model Car Make & Take - 1 p.m.
  • Winners Circle - 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Awards Program - 2:22 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for ages 7 to 12 and $20 for 13 and up. The Des Moines Register notes that organizers are encouraging everyone to purchase their tickets online in advance to "promote a contactless purchase environment." You can get your tickets HERE.
