Theatre Cedar Rapids Postpones Production Due To Casting Controversy
Theatre Cedar Rapids announced on Wednesday that it will be postponing it's production of the play 'Tribes'. The postponement is due to a casting controversy. The lead character in the play is deaf. After not being able to find an actor who was deaf to play the role, TCR opened up the part to people with no hearing issues.
People in the deaf community weren't happy about the decision and say that they didn't even know that the role was available. TCR and members of the deaf community met on Tuesday to help come up with better ways of finding deaf actors and letting the community know about upcoming auditions.
No future date has been set for when the play might re-open.
