Three Cedar Rapids Teens Charged with Attempted Murder
A shooting earlier this spring in Cedar Rapids has resulted in the arrest of three Cedar Rapids juveniles.
In a release this morning from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the charges stem from a shooting at approximately 6:50 p.m. the evening of March 11. The report that came into the CRPD that night indicated shots had been fired in the vicinity of 16th St and 1st Ave East. The officers were told suspects had run from a business at 220 16th St NE, known as Coin Kleen Laundromat.
The three people who've been arrested in connection with the shooting are 16-year-old Malachi Free Handley of Cedar Rapids, 15-year-old Glenn Nichols of Cedar Rapids, and 15-year-old Cody Michael Adkins.
Handley has been charged with Attempted Murder, Willful Injury-Causing Serious Injury, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon. The release indicates authorities believe Handley fired multiple rounds, from a handgun, into the laundromat that night. A 14-year-old male inside the laundromat was reportedly struck twice by bullets, injuring him seriously.
Nichols and Adkins are also both charged with Attempted Murder, Willful Injury-Causing Serious Injury, and Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon.
All three are in custody.
