When emergency crews arrived, they found two vehicles had collided head-on and one had caught fire. Authorities say a 2012 Dodge Ram truck driven by 35-year-old Richard Jedlicka of West Branch was northbound on Ely Road when it crossed the center line and hit a southbound 2016 Kia Soul, driven by 29-year-old Jesse Ozbun of Marion. Following the crash, the truck ended up on its top in the road with the Kia in the ditch on the west side of the roadway. The Kia then caught fire.

The Kia had three people inside, including Jesse Ozbun. Four-year-old Hunter Ozbun and 26-year-old Shawnee Lines, both of Marion, were also injured. Lines was taken by Lifeguard Air ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) in Iowa City with life-threatening injuries. Both Hunter and Jesse Ozbun were transported by Area Ambulance Service to UIHC. They both sustained serious injuries.

Jedlicka was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Linn County Jail. He is suspected of drunk driving. Other charges are pending.

The Linn County Sheriff's Department was also assisted at the scene by Linn County Sheriff's Rescue, Johnson County Sheriff's Deputies, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Ely Fire Department. The Linn County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the accident.
