The Tour de France is no stranger to big crashes, but on Saturday, a major crash happened during Stage 1.

A massive pile-up of cyclists occurred near the beginning of the stage when someone standing on the side of the road stuck his cardboard sign out too far to make it on camera. He hit racer Tony Martin, who wiped out and fell off his bike, where a group of riders behind him struck his bike and fell themselves.

Many riders were able to avoid the crash, and they kept trucking along, including Julian Alaphilippe, who won Stage 1.

Multiple angles of the accident show the actual severity of the crash.

Following the crash, the fan has gone into hiding, which is probably a good idea for them. France seems to be pretty serious about their bike races, so this is a pretty serious matter.
