What could have been a horrible tragedy ended with lives saved in western Iowa Thursday night, thanks to an out-of-state truck driver who jumped into action.

The fire call came into the Sioux City Fire Department at around 10:45 Thursday evening. When fire crews were called, there were still kids inside the home. Thankfully, truck driver Martin Hughes of Nebraska saw the female homeowner and two of her four children, waving him down as he passed. Hughes pulled his semi over and, when he realized what was happening, sprang into action.

Hughes tried to crawl under the smoke, but it was too think. He and the woman then started to go to each window of the home until they found the two children who were still inside. He then broke the window and was able to get the two kids out of the home safely, before fire crews arrived on the scene.

Neither of the kids was injured and Martin was left with only minor injuries... a few cuts from broken glass. Great work, Martin Hughes. Absolutely great work.
