Exciting things are happening at ImOn Ice Arena, 1100 Rockford Road SW in Cedar Rapids, home of the United States Hockey League (USHL) RoughRiders. The team itself was forced to forego the season last year due to derecho damage, but that work is almost complete and they will be ready to take the ice for their regular-season home opener on October 16. Get the team's full schedule here.

Also returning this November is one of the RoughRiders' biggest community outreach events as they participate in "Try Hockey For Free" Day on Saturday, November 6. During two sessions, from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. and again from 5-6 p.m. youth will, as the name states, be able to try hockey for free. All participants will also receive a free ticket to the RoughRiders game that night starting at 7:05 p.m. against Des Moines (with the purchase of one adult ticket).

Try Hockey For Free is open to youth ages 4-9 who would like the opportunity to try hockey in a FUN, safe environment with the trained coaching staff. No experience is necessary and most of the necessary gear will be provided, although in the past they've asked participants to bring a bicycle helmet for safety and protection.

Check out details about, including a cool video about the benefits of kids learning to skate and play hockey, and then sign them up here for the free event this Fall.
