Summer 2020 is shaping up to be a bit of a bummer!

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, two more Eastern Iowa summer events have officially been canceled. According to the Des Moines Register, the Iowa Arts Festival and the 4th Annual Downtown Block Party will not be happening in 2020.

The Iowa Arts Festival is hosted by the Iowa City Summer of the Arts and was set to be held June 5th through 7th. The cancelation was announced on their official website under an update titled, "Changes to Our Festival Season." It reads:

"It is with much sadness that we’re announcing major changes to our festival season. However, we want our community to know that we are reworking our events to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our community. This is our top priority, and we will continue to follow all City of Iowa City and State of Iowa public health directives."

The update also notes that all of the May Friday Night Concert Series performances have been canceled, but they do hope to reschedule them later in the season. Plus, they are already researching changes for June events. You can read the full update HERE.

The Downtown Block Party is hosted by the Iowa City Downtown District and typically happens in June. Unfortunately, the 2020 event won't be happening at all. The update from the official website says:

"Our leadership believes that hosting an event like the Block Party, which saw 42,000 attendees last year, is unfortunately not an option this year and would present unpredictable and potentially unsafe outcomes."

They are hoping to have some smaller events throughout the summer to make up for the cancelation. You can read the full statement HERE.
