Warmer Weather Brings Ice Jams To Eastern Iowa Waterways
An ice jam on Indian Creek in Marion this morning shows how quickly the weather has changed around here. To the west in Cedar Rapids, city engineers are happy to have that permanent levee below Ellis Park. It was installed after ice-jam flooding in 2013.
Officials say it's too early to be overly concerned about widespread ice jamming, but river levels have begun to climb. Also on the Cedar River, authorities say cracks have appeared on the ice sheet between the railroad bridge at Quaker and the 5-in-1 bridge, according to The Gazette.
Many have noticed what looks like an "ice rainbow" at Ellis Park over the years in the springtime. Quite a sight to see. We're glad local experts aren't overly concerned about this year's "jamming" on area waterways.
Temperatures will stay in the 60s the rest of the week, dip into the low 50s Saturday, then back into the 60s next week. Normal high this time of year is 43.
