It's finally FAIR WEEK!

I feel like I'm mentally and emotionally ready for this week's Great Jones County Fair, but I'm not sure if I'm physically ready. The main reason for that is FAIR FOOD. I love the GJCF for a lot of reasons, but the food is definitely up there at the top. I can't wait to take that first magical walk down the aisle of the food court on Thursday night and start making mental notes of all the items I want to try.

When it comes to fair and festival foods, I have several go-to orders. I love a big tray of nachos with extra cheese, loaded ribbon fries, and cheese curds, but I do like to throw a few curve balls in there. Back in 2019, I had an AMAZING dinner from one of the vendors at the Great Jones County Fair. It was steak tips, mashed potatoes, and sautéed onions all mixed together in a little basket, and it was one of the best things I've ever eaten there. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll be there again this week.

If I had to choose a number one favorite fair/festival food, though, it would have to be elephant ears. They're similar to funnel cakes, but even better. For some reason, nobody in Iowa sells them, but I ate them all the time as a kid in Michigan. I found exactly one stand that has them at the Iowa State Fair, but that was it! If you ever see them being advertised, get one with half cinnamon sugar and half powdered sugar. DELICIOUS.
