A big event is headed back to the Amana Colonies! Winterfest 2023 is set for Saturday, January 21st.

Every year, the Amana Colonies encourages Iowans to get out of the house and enjoy a bunch of different indoor and outdoor activities at Winterfest. There are a variety of games and competitions for the whole family to participate in, as well as a 5k and a wine & beer walk! Here are some of the things to look forward to:

Amana Freezer 5k Run/Walk

If you don't mind the cold, get registered for the Amana Freezer 5k, which goes from Amana to East Amana. Walkers and runners are welcome at the event, whatever the weather may be that day. The race begins at the Carding Studio at the Hotel Millwright at 10 a.m. and costs $25 to $30. You can register in advance online HERE.

Winterfest Games

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Market Barn will play host to the Winterfest Games. Guests can participate in classic games, like the Great Amana Ham-Put and the Wreath Toss, along with a few others. There is also a Best Beard Competition at 2 p.m.! In between games, be sure to check out the chainsaw artist as they create beautiful ice sculptures!

Open Fire Chili

Beginning at 11 a.m., the Amana Volunteer Fire Department will serve their famous open fire chili at the Market Barn. But, you better get there ASAP, because they always sell out pretty quickly. You can even purchase a commemorative mug to eat it in!

Wine, Beer, & Coffee Walk

One of Winterfest's most popular events is the annual Wine, Beer, & Coffee Walk. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can purchase a punch card for $5 and then travel to each participating business for a sample. When you're done, you can turn your punch card in for a Winterfest Wine Glass. Ackerman Winery, White Cross Cellars, Fireside Winery, Village Winery, and Millstream Brewery are all great stops!

Wine & Dine

Ox Yoke Inn will be hosting the Winterfest Wine & Dine at 5:30 p.m. on January 21st. The five course meal will include appetizers, soup, salad, your choice of entree, and dessert, as well as wine pairings courtesy of White Cross Cellars. The cost is $45 per person. You can make a reservation by calling 319-622-3409 or email info@oxyokeinn.com
