Say it ain't so!

A few months ago, I made a list of popular Iowa restaurants that I wanted to visit by the end of the summer. One of the five restaurants on that list, and the one I was looking forward to the most, was the Irish Shanty. Located in Elgin, Iowa, about one hour and 45 minutes from Downtown Cedar Rapids, The Irish Shanty is the home of the famous Gunderburger. If you've never seen one before, here you go:

I have been dreaming about tasting a delicious Gunderburger since I first laid eyes on a photo of one. Unfortunately, I waited too long. According to their official Facebook page, The Irish Shanty is no longer offering kitchen service. The post from May 31st reads:

"Due to an acute shortage of labor, The Shanty will not be continuing its kitchen service effective immediately. This page will be shut down at the end of June."

No other explanations or updates have been given, but people in the comments of the post seem to be very disappointed. I'm not surprised! I've never been there and I'm also disappointed! Hopefully things will work out in the end.
