I know you read that headline and immediately thought, 'there's a catch.' I assure you there's not. A multitude of former major league stars are coming to Cedar Rapids for a charity softball game Saturday, July 27. The game is a fundraiser for Perfect Game Cares Underserved Youth Initiative. However, that morning from 8 am to 11 am (prior to the game), the celebrities are teaching area kids 14-and-under during a baseball and softball clinic that's absolutely free.

However, only 500 kids will be allowed in, so if your kids want to take part, email jennifer@perfectgame.org before it is too late. Registration deadline is July 14, but I think it will be full long before that. Each child who takes part also gets a free ticket for the celebrity softball game after the camp. NOTE: Kids 12-and-under must have an adult ticket holder with them at the game. Tickets for the celebrity game are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. The game begins at noon Saturday, July 27 at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Tickets may be purchased HERE.

Ok, now that you know what's happening, just LOOK at who will be instructing your kids:

In addition to all those players, these former big leaguers will also be part of the clinic and game:
Junior Spivey
John Cangelosi
Wes Obermueller
Ben Ford
Tom Gorzolony
Brooks Kieschnick
Bruce Kimm
Brian Dinkelman, Cedar Rapids Kernels Manager
Rick Heller, Iowa baseball coach
