The Cinderella story is always a good one in sports. Whether it be a newcomer, a veteran on the comeback trail, or a long-time competitor finally picking up that first championship after years of hard-fought competition, it keeps the game or event more compelling.

It's happened a few times recently, with the Golden State Warriors winning their first NBA title since 1975 and the United States women's national soccer team taking home their first World Cup since 1999. Then there's Cedar Rapids' own, golfer Zach Johnson. He won his first "major" in 2007 with the Masters tournament, and earlier this week, sealed another big victory in the British Open. His humility in reacting to the win in a post-match interview made me even prouder to share a hometown with him.

While Tiger Woods is perhaps the best known and most successful golfer to this generation, I'm more interested when Johnson is in the hunt, as was the case on the final day of the British Open when he was embroiled in an exciting playoff with a pair of opponents to determine the winner.

So, congratulations to British Open Champion Zach Johnson. Cedar Rapids and Iowa are proud of you!
