Zach Johnson has never fit the profile of a big hitter on the PGA Tour. But the Cedar Rapids native does it his own way. That 'way' has won him countless tournaments including a Masters and an Open Championship. Zach was on his game yesterday during round one of the season's final major, the PGA Championship.

On a day where the course was soft and allowed players to go for the pins, Zach took advantage. He fired in five birdies on the day and shot a 4 under 66. He sits just two shots off the pace after 18 holes. The first round score is kind of amazing when you figure in that Johnson ranked 125th out of 156 players in driving distance on day one.

But, the old golf saying is "drive for show, putt for dough." Experts say that even if the conditions get tougher over the weekend, the course still allows players like Zach to do well. And he has the Major championship experience to draw on too. Aside from his two wins, Johnson has been in the hunt at Majors too, with seven top 10's and three more top 20's.

Gary Woodland is your first-round leader at -6 with Rickie Fowler just one shot back. Zach begins his second round at 8:23 a.m.
