Two Cedar Rapids Police Officers were involved in a shooting just after two o'clock this morning in the northeast part of the city.

According to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, an orange BMW was seen driving recklessly at a high rate of speed in the area near the 1000 block of A Avenue NE. It was then observed going the wrong direction on 12th Street, heading towards H Avenue. Officers then saw the vehicle crash into a telephone pole in an alley in the 800 block between Center Point Road and Daniels Street.

When Officers exited their police car, the driver drove recklessly towards them. The Officers fired at the vehicle and the driver of the orange BMW received non-life threatening injuries. The driver was a white male. A white female passenger received minor injuries in the crash and was treated and released at a local hospital. The driver was treated for gunshot injuries at a local hospital, and released.

The two Cedar Rapids Police Officers involved were not injured.

No charges have been filed at this time, pending the outcome of the investigation. The names of those involved has also not been released.

The Iowa DCI (Division of Criminal Investigation) is investigating the incident.
