There's a lot to admire in the new trailer for 'The Drop.' The first thing you'll notice is the presence of the late, great James Gandolfini is his final role. The second thing you'll notice is that Tom Hardy just plain smolders, even with a Brooklyn accent. The third thing you'll notice is that this is the American debut of director Michaël Roskam, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind the fantastic and truly unique crime film 'Bullhead.' Yeah, this is a movie you should keep your eye on.

The trailer sells a fairly meat-and-potatoes crime story, but there's nothing wrong with meat and potatoes when they're prepared well, especially when the recipe comes from writer Dennis Lehane, the acclaimed novelist behind 'The Town' and 'Mystic River.' Hardy and Gandolfini play former full-time crooks who now run a bar where criminals drop off their dirty money. Naturally, a robbery occurs, things go wrong and violence starts to creep into their lives. Noomi Rapace and an adorable dog are also somehow involved.

Here's the official plot synopsis:

The Drop follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters - "money drops" - in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood's past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living - no matter the cost.

'The Drop' drops into theaters on September 19.
