Is today ACTUALLY the most depressing day of the year?

According to the internet, the third Monday in January is also known as "Blue Monday." It's considered to be the most depressing day of the year. Back in 2005, a UK psychologist by the name of Cliff Arnall claimed to have developed a formula to figure out what day of the year is the saddest. Some of the factors of the equation include the weather, post-holiday sadness, and holiday debt. From there "Blue Monday" was born.

As it turns out, the whole study is total BS. There's actually no such thing as a most depressing day. It all started when he was asked by a company to come up with a day that is best to take a vacation. Arnall later retracted the work and said, "I'm pleased about the impact it if it means people are talking about depression and how they feel but I'm also encouraging people to refute the whole notion of there being a most depressing day and to use the day as a springboard for the things that really matter in your life." Basically, depression isn't something that just appears one day a year, it is a mental illness that many people struggle with their entire lives. Wouldn't it be great if it was only something that happened one day a year?

All studies aside, it is a Monday and it is a big rainy mess outside, so maybe do something nice for yourself today! Maybe I'll treat myself to a giant bowl of mac & cheese. That always cheers me up :)
