10 Fun Facts To Know About The 4th Of July

It's time to become a 4th of July expert! Okay, obviously we all know why we celebrate and what we are celebrating on the 4th of July. Of course we celebrate this iconic day with fireworks, cook outs and probably  a little (or a lot for some) alcohol thrown in there.

However before we get to celebrating this year, you might want to brush up on some of the fun facts about Independence Day to be the cool kid at the party! (This will be perfect for trivia games).

So, here are fun 10 facts that you may not have known about the 4th of July:

1. Three U.S. presidents have died on July 4th: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe

2. Adams and Jefferson both died on the 50th anniversary of the country in 1826.

3. July 4th was not a national holiday until 100 years after the founding of the nation in 1870.

4. In New England, it is a tradition to eat salmon on the 4th of July.

5. Massachusetts was the first state to recognize the 4th of July.

6. Americans eat over 150 million hot dogs a year on the 4th.

7. Setting off fireworks for the 4th became a tradition in Philadelphia on July 4th, 1777.

8. John Adams believed July 2nd was the correct date to celebrate American Independence and would turn down July 4th invitations.

9. The vote for Independence was on July 2nd but the Declaration of Independence was not adopted until July 4th.

10. George Washington gave a double ration of run to all his soldiers as a way to mark the anniversary of independence in 1778 and 1781.
